Let’s just pretend Google Buzz was not a complete fail a couple of months ago and that privacy was a huge issue -
Google has made a strong comeback with its new service “Google+” (Google Plus), which it announced just today. Google Plus aims, without a doubt, at eating into Facebook’s social network shares. With its (Google’s) usual system of “beta invites only” it is, as usual, creating a lot of anticipation for their new service. I remember when Google released Google Wave and Google buzz – same thing – everyone wanted to get invites, but barely anyone had them. Then, after some time, everyone had invites and it was not hard at all to get hold of an invite.

Checkout a demo of Goolge+ here at http://www.google.com/+/demo/

Please do not put your email address in the comment field, as this will expose it to spammers, I can simply take your contact details from within WordPress – more secure and convenient.

New Readers/Visitors, please also note my very recent post about “why I am using the crappy default theme” – back to normal design soon.

P.S. now my fingers hurt – copy & pasting 265++ email addresses, confirming, closing tabs… weee
*half are my replies, but still a lot for less than 24 hours, rght?

Have received an invite, but nothing is working?
Does your screen look similar to this ?
–> Google has run out of capacity for today, but your invite was sent successfully, try tomorrow, you may then be able to access Google+ without a problem. The hard part, securing an invite, is already done.

Jump to comment field to request an invite – please don’t put your email in the comment field – we don’t want people to spam you, right?

Update: 19th July All is working just fine. You may continue to request invites.

Hello there,
I have a total of 16 Google Wave INVITATIONS to give-away. For free! It says 08 in the screenshot I made, which is the number of total invites you can give-away per account, but fortunately I have two accounts, which is why I can offer 16 Google Wave Invites for free

update! salem at technoheads is also giving away several invites, so unless this site gets hit by digg or something and I run out of invites, I am giving my remaining google invites to him and his audience

So if you care to get a Google Wave Invite, just leave a comment on this post (no need to put your email address in the comment field, I will get it when clicking on your comment) – if you feel like sharing, too, feel free to tell me what browser you are using and if the website (this) is displaying fine for you. If you are even more generous, you may even check out the fading animation part below this post and click&close.

It seems like Google has finally (once again) updated their Pagerank Index -
h4x3d.com (this site) has climbed up one rank to Pagerank 6 which is not bad, but still I am striving for Page Rank 7 for the end of 2008!

It is really funny to check-out what it takes to get to PR6, respectively PR7 -
I have some 35,000 incoming links on Technorati, some 50,000 ++ people using my themes and crap loads of incomings links from other sites. Quite a development if I go back 1-2 years where I was mainly blogging about ramblings and things that were important to me. Thanks everyone!

I found the following article somewhat helpful, so to give it some exposure before it slips into the blackholes of the internet, here it is:

Improved Technorati Authority can contribute to increased visibility, traffic, and reputation in the blogosphere. Technorati rates your Authority based on the number of blogs that it detects linking to yours in the last six months. It lists these sites as “blog reactions”. This list is automatically assembled from the sites that ping Technorati.

You may not be getting the full authority you deserve, because not all blogs are configured to ping Technorati, and sometimes it just misses a few links here and there. Well, there happens to be a little technique to help maximize your Technorati Authority. It might not cause your authority to spike upwards, or an immediate surge in traffic, but in competitive markets, every little advantage helps. Remember, that each additional eye on your site is a potential linker, and that can lead to increased traffic and rankings.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Find Other Blogs Linking to Yours That Technorati Doesn’t Know About

1. Start with Google Blog Search, with a “link:” query — “link:http://www.yourblogdomain.com/” — the url of your blog. It won’t show all the links to your site (usually just recent ones from other blogs), but it’s a good place to start.
For example, a “link:” query for the WebGeek blog would look like this.
If you really want to be slick, automate the process by signing up for the RSS feed or Google Alerts provided on the results page.

2. The search engine results will list the blogs that mention your blog. Scan the results, and click on the links to find sites that haven’t shown up in the list of blog reactions on Technorati.

3. Create a list. When you find one that hasn’t shown up in Technorati, add it to the list.

4. After that, do Google and Yahoo web searches for either your blog’s url or a unique identifying phrase that other blogs would use to reference yours.

5. Repeat #2.

Step 2: Manually Ping Technorati

1. After you have created a list of sites that Technorati hasn’t discovered, you need to go to the manual ping page.

2. One by one, enter the urls that link to your site, and submit.

3. It won’t show up right away, but in an hour or two, the blog reactions list will contain some of the urls you discovered. The next day, your authority score will be adjusted to include the new links.

Why Does This Work?
Manually pinging Technorati would be like letting Google or Yahoo know that you have more backlinks that they haven’t discovered yet.

Today I stumbled over one funny advertisment that showed up on one of my websites:

loljesus.gif

Christ Loves you. – Sorry what?
I went to the page manually (so that I wont breach Google’s TOS) and was surprised… to see a page that was blatantly layed out to capture personal information such as e-mail addresses and postal address.

Adsense Users, be aware of the fact that when using your filter list and adding domains to it, you need to remove all leading slashes, else you might receive duplicates that take up space from your filter list.

The Google adsense filter list can only hold up to 200 values.
I just went through my list and found 12 duplicates.

An example:

http://downloadrings.com/

http://downloadrings.com

Same domain, but added twice to the list. Google might consider adding an auto-filter to take care of those dupes, but then again… they care crap at all about Adsense (as far as publishers like you and me are concerned).

Yeah right… earn money, but how much?

Last month I had some 350,000 ad impressions and earned merely 194$. Of course this is still a lot of money, but for so many impressions one could expect a bit higher payment, right?

My mate over at christinazone.com makes 10x what I do with less impressions and clicks. Seems like my audience here is quite click-adverse and smart :)

Are my ads targeted? Some are, but others are not…

If you wish to help me out with some filtering, just drop the offense ad URLS in a comment or plain contact form (link below; bottom left). It is highly appreciated. I am always trying to filter out those stupid .info domains with their non-sense ads, but since those are ads geo-targeted I miss half of them I assume. Oh and in case you want to earn some extra bucks with your website, click the Google Adsense image above. Google will explain to you what is necessary in order to get your started.

Edit: Google sent me a mail today, saying I was yelling at my visitors to do stuff with ads. How bollox is that? Must be one of their heuristic filters gone mad. Anyway, I changed potions of the site, hope this helps!

Google Adsense is taking the piss at the moment, that is why I changed the layout once more. See the images attached below.
Update: I changed the 468×60 banner to 336×280 in order to not break the layout for visitors surfing at lower screenresolutions (below 1024+). I use 1280×1024 if you wonder about the screenshots.

After (two column layout)

Internet Explorer renders it like this:

Update: The new ads are performing very good. In contrast to the mere $3,02 I made yesterday (no kidding), I already earned $7,64 today. Yay for some server money!

What is wrong with Google Adsense?
Today so far I got 3800 impressions and a mere $2,01 earned. What the hell? I’d leave it out all together then and still make more money by looking at jumping monkeys.

Update:

6700 impressions, $3,02 earned. This is silly. I will be modifying my theme tomorrow. I got hosting bills to pay and this is not paying out as well.

filter out low income ads on your site

Sometimes it is necessary to filter out the competition, not only to make more money off the ads, but also to serve high quality and targeted ads to your visitors. It is them, after all, who click on the ads.

If you haven’t filter out some junk advertisers, I advice you to do so. My earnings went up 300% ++ after spending half an hour crawling my site with google’s adsense preview tool.
