Plot summary
Lois asks Peter to go the PTA meeting, then Peter asks Brian to go. Brian reluctantly goes, and falls in love with one of Meg’s teachers, Shauna Parks. They go out on a date, and Brian suggests changing the name of James Woods Regional High School. Shauna, who is black, likes Brian’s idea of honoring Martin Luther King Jr., and the board holds a meeting to consider the name change. Peter gets James Woods to come to the meeting, who says it’s OK to change the name of the school. Impressed by Woods’ humility, the board decides not to change the school’s name. Brian is furious with Peter’s involvement with his and Shauna’s idea, although Peter thought that Dr. King was “that guy from Space: 1999,” Martin Landau.

Peter and James Woods become very good friends, while Brian is late for his date with Shauna. She is upset that he still talks to Peter and makes Brian choose between her and Peter, and they eventually call off their relationship, as Brian feels that his friendship is more important. He and Peter patch their differences at the Drunken Clam. Returning home, they find James Woods is still there. They get rid of him by trapping him in a box, with Reese’s Pieces as bait (à la E.T.). Woods is then sent to be studied by “top men,” when he is really being stored away in a Government Warehouse with similar other crates (á la Raiders of the Lost Ark).

Plot summary
Peter Griffin goes in search of fish at Pelican’s Reef at the suggestion of salty Seamus, with Glen Quagmire, Joe Swanson, and Cleveland Brown tagging along for the free beer. They find the fish, only to find themselves adrift at sea after a hurricane. They would have been killed if not for the raft they were able to build out of Quagmire’s sex dolls. Unfortunately, they had no food, so Peter ate the legs of Joe, a paraplegic, from the knees on down.

After being presumed lost at sea, a memorial service is held for the sailors. Brian marries Lois to support the family, working as a salesman at a Hummer dealership. However, he and Lois sleep in separate beds, much to Brian’s frustration.

Several months later, the four men are rescued from the island by a passing cruise ship, while they are attempting to pass the time with group homosexual intercourse.

Joe gets a new set of legs from a death row inmate who got the electric chair. Unfortunately for Joe, he was also a paraplegic, a reference to the show’s uncanny ability to return to the status quo, regardless of events.

Peter finally returns home and meets his family. When Peter is about to kiss Lois, she admits that she has married Brian. After Lois tells him why she is with Brian, Peter leaves and gets a room in a hotel in Downtown Quahog. Brian wants to talk to her about the situation she is in (in order to get into her pants). In an attempt to win Lois back, Peter goes to the house, where Lois finds him naked and lying on the couch. His plan succeeds and they have sex on the tipped over chair, where Stewie finds them and videotapes them having sex. The next night, Lois runs out of the house with a saddle. Stewie shows the tape to Brian and Brian goes to the hotel that Peter is staying at and sees a silhouette of Peter and Lois having sex. When Brian gets to Peter’s room, Lois tells Peter that she made a commitment to Brian and must stay with him. When Lois gets home, Brian dumps Lois and tells her to go back to Peter. The next day, she admits that she was a day away from having sex with him. Brian, angry at this revelation, tells the family he’ll be in the basement. Upon being asked what he’s going to do, his response is “WHAT DO YOU THINK?!”

Plot summary
Chris is excited to become a freshman at the local high school, until Joe tells Chris about the “Freshman Hunt,” a hazing ritual in which the freshmen are beaten with paddles by everyone. When Chris shows up at school Lois yells out “Freshman!” to lure over other students. After a short chase Chris is caught, and is paddled by several people, including the mayor, playing a part in the movie Dazed and Confused. Chris asks Brian for advice.

In the meantime, Peter, who has been unemployed for quite some time, goes to work at the Pawtucket Brewery, where drinking on the job is allowed as long as the employee can control himself. But Peter can’t control his drinking, so he is demoted to working for a mentally handicapped man whom he can’t understand, but is more qualified than him.

Brian tells Chris about his time in the Peace Corps. Chris decides to join the Corps and goes to South America, where he becomes popular with the natives. When he gets the tribe to dance, he is married to the chief’s daughter, as dictated by the tribe’s customs.

When Lois learns of this she immediately travels down to the country with the rest of the family. Disillusioned with his new job, Peter is as eager to go there as anyone else. Upon their arrival Peter is seen as the richest man in the country with just $37. Many of the natives of the country then become Peter’s slave for just nickels and dimes. When Chris accuses Peter of “using” the natives to escape his troubles Lois points out that that is also what Chris did. Chris then decides to return to Rhode Island, telling his wife that he must leave her, casually referring to his status as a freshman. The natives respond exactly as the upperclassmen in Quahog do, so they chase the Griffins with spears and poison darts. The Griffins escape on a seaplane, but forget Meg, who is left face-down in the river riddled with darts and arrows.

family guy - PTV

Download: Family Guy – 4×14 – PTV

“PTV” is an Emmy-nominated episode from season four of the FOX animated television series Family Guy. The episode dealt with censorship on television, and specifically the FCC. 8.6 million people watched this episode on its first run on FOX.

In the February 2007 Playboy issue, as well as the commentary for the DVD, Seth talks about how the FCC wanted a copy of the episode. Seth thought they wanted to censor the episode or that it would cause him trouble, but it turns out they wanted to watch it because they had heard it was really funny. The FCC watched it and thought it was funny.

Opening Sequence
In a cave somewhere in Afghanistan, Osama bin Laden and his associates are getting ready to film their next message to send to Americans, but keeps breaking character following a blooper on his first take. Stewie shows up and starts to fight everyone. After succeeding, Stewie falls from the cave and lands on his bike (in a parody of the opening of the first The Naked Gun movie). He heads toward home to the Griffins’ garage, where he smashed Homer Simpson on the door before he stopped.

Episode Summary
Peter is very excited about watching the Emmy Awards, however Lois tells him that he has to attend Meg’s play. Peter voices his frustration and is forced to go. At Meg’s play, Peter tries many ways to watch the Emmys, even trying to convince Lois to leave early, but he fails.

Back at home, the news anchors are reporting that after a “trouser malfunction,” David Hyde Pierce revealed his testicles. Peter is outraged that he “missed a moment in television history.” In the Federal Communications Commission building, the Board of Commssioners are discussing what to do about the David Hyde Pierce incident. Their Chairman, Cobra Commander from G.I. Joe, tells them that they have to censor television.

The FCC gets to work on television shows, cutting out anything that might be deemed inappropriate, including Christe’s bikini on Three’s Company, Ralph Kramden’s threats of spousal abuse and even Dick van Dyke’s name. Peter is enraged, and swears to fight the ban. With advice from Tom Tucker, Peter starts his own television network called PTV. He broadcasts classic shows in their original, unedited versions, as well as original programming, such as Cheeky Bastard, Midnight Q, Dogs Humping, The Peter Griffin Side-Boob Hour, and (in a DVD exclusive scene), a parody of MTV’s “Jackass” called Douchebags.

Lois is upset about Peter’s obscenity in his shows. She calls the FCC, prompting Peter, Brian, and Stewie to perform an elaborate musical number about how insane the FCC’s regulations are. The song ends with Peter, Stewie and Brian in travestial outfits (probably a reference to the Rocky Horror Picture Show).

The FCC shut down PTV. After Peter tells the FCC that they can’t stop people from being who they are, they take on the challenge. The FCC start to censor any foul language and inappropriate behavior in Quahog – all expletives are bleeped with an air horn, and audible farts are banned in public. After being prevented from having sex due to the indecency laws, Lois eventually concedes that Peter was right, and they both lobby Congress to have the FCC’s rulings reversed. At first they resist, but they relent when Peter points out the resemblance of many Washington area buildings to various naughty body parts.

The oppression of the FCC is gone, and the family settles down to watch an episode of the Brady Bunch that features a poop joke.

Download: Family Guy – 4×15 – Brian Goes Back to College

Plot summary
Peter, Cleveland, Joe and Quagmire get dressed up as the protagonists from The A-Team to go to a 1980s TV show convention. The event is covered by Brian for a local newspaper. The editor of The New Yorker happens to read the paper, is impressed by Brian’s writing—and offers him a job. But when Brian admits he did not finish college, he is immediately fired.

Brian resolves to take the one class he needs to get his college degree. Stewie tags along with Brian, leaving Gary Coleman as his replacement at home. Brian stresses about his class while Stewie parties. Stewie edits one of Brian’s papers, and Brian sees it as cheating. He doesn’t like how Stewie did that, but quickly, Brian has second thoughts.

Meanwhile, spurred by winning the costume contest, Peter and friends decide to become a real A-Team. However, rather than solving the town’s problems they end up causing havoc. The episode concludes with them achieving redemption by helping Brian get to his final exam on time. He fails it, but he is glad for managing to finally finish college, without cheating. His family tells him that he should have (cheated).

Synopsis

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

Open to the family watching a cop drama. As the credits roll, Kent Brockman announces that the Springfield Isotopes are in first place thanks to their new acquisition of Buck “Homerun King” Mitchell. “To the bandwagon!” shouts Homer, as they all head to Springfield Stadium. Tabitha Vixx, Buck Mitchell’s wife, sings the first few bars of the National Anthem at the game, then strips down to lingerie and launches into one of her own songs. After a minute of lascivious dancing, she concludes “…and the home of the brave.” Buck, humiliated, delivers a terrible performance at that night’s game. He later sees Homer and Marge kissing on the Jumbotron; the next day Buck shows up at the Simpsons’ front door and asks for help with his marriage in exchange for season tickets.

Marge doubts their ability to counsel another couple. Her doubts lead to her and Homer flirting, which Buck sees and claims is an example of what he wants with his own wife. At the first session—taking place in the Simpsons’ living room—Buck confesses he assumed Tabitha would give up her recording career to focus on his minor league baseball career, to which she responds she won’t stay in a mismatched marriage. The session concludes with Homer asking Buck to sign baseballs.

The next session takes place at Buck and Tabitha’s mansion, which goes much more smoothly. As a result of his now-steady personal life, his game returns to superior form. Tabitha continues her singing tour, and Homer comes to meet her in the locker room to check up on things. There he gives her a neck rub; her loud moans through the door are overheard by Buck, who barges in enraged and slugs Homer.

Now with his marriage again on the rocks, Buck goes into another slump. Homer wants to get them back together, but Marge refuses to help. He leaves, and a few minutes later Tabitha knocks on the door; she tells a shocked Marge that she plans to leave Buck for good. Marge objects, insisting they stay together.

Flash to Buck Mitchell at the plate in the bottom of the ninth. Homer has hijacked the Duff blimp and spells out a message to Buck, supposedly from Tabitha proclaiming her love. Buck, reinvigorated, hits the ball into the blimp itself, causing it to crash into the field; as Homer alone runs from the wreckage, Buck realizes Tabitha had no part in the message. He charges Homer, bat in hand, but Marge delivers a monologue over the loudspeaker, dissuading him. It also prompts Tabitha to tell Buck she wants to stay together.

The episode closes with another Isotope player, Tito, saying he doesn’t care about the healed marriage because bandits just kidnapped his mother.

Cultural references>

  • One of the misplays that Buck made during the first game in this episode is a parody of Bill Buckner’s infamous error in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.
  • One of Tabitha’s songs sounds very similar to Britney SpearsToxic.
  • The show they are watching is called Hunch and seems to be a poke at the television show Monk. In fact, the first name of the “actor” on Hunch is Tony which is the real life first name of Monk’s main actor Tony Shalhoub.
  • Hunch also seems to be a bit controversial, in the same vein as NYPD Blue if Bart’s comment about Hunch’s butt in the shower is accurate.
  • At the end credits for Hunch, the city of New York is credited as being played by the city of Lethbridge, Alberta, a small city between Calgary and the USA/Canadian border of approximately 80,000 inhabitants. A strange choice to film a prime time crime drama, although Canada has become a popular filming location for many American movies and some television. This was shown in “The Bart Wants What It Wants.”
  • Among the people credited in the cast of Hunch are The Late George C. Scott as Furious Bowler, Anthony Hopkins as Bystander #2, Gwyneth Paltrow as Gloria Huncharella and Heidi Klum as Guy Who Turned Out To Be That Other Guy. J.D. Salinger is credited as the writer.
  • The file photo of Marge and Homer references Michelangelo’s famous Pietà.
  • The writer for the show Homer and the family are watching at the beginning of the episode is J.D. Salinger, author of The Catcher in the Rye.
  • Tabitha’s frequent pole-dancing could be a reference to Anna Benson.
  • Homer asks “Why couldn’t you marry one of your crummy back-up dancers?”, a reference to notable singers marrying back-up dancers, such as Britney Spears marrying Kevin Federline, and Jennifer Lopez marrying Cris Judd.
  • When the zeppelin is above the stadium and showing the text “I love you Buck,” the announcer is saying “Wow, that’s a zeppelin with whole lotta love!” as a reference to Led Zeppelin song “Whole Lotta Love.”
  • After accidentally destroying Homer’s dirigible with a home run swing, Buck remarks, “This is the second worst blimp crash ever,” to which Grampa Simpson replies, “Too soon!” This is a reference to the Hindenburg Disaster. This event was also referenced by Kent Brockman in Lisa the Beauty Queen, who after witnessing Barney crash the Duff Blimp exclaimed, “Oh, the humanity!” a la Herbert Morrison.
